Adam Widener - Vesuvio Nights

"Vesuvio Nights" is the debut album from Bay-area wonder-kid Adam Widener.

Catchy and addicting, these 14 songs are impossible to genre-classify.  You can call it mod-punk or fuzzed-out new wave, glam-pop, or whatever.  These songs show a range of influences as diverse as The Undertones, Elvis Costello, Jay Reatard, and Devo.  Isn't it refreshing to hear someone sounding confident, polished, and unlike anything else out there!  Rock n roll. Dig!

The Ar-Kaics

Introducing "She Does Those Things To Me" the debut 7" from Richmond, VA's The Ar-Kaics! Out now on speakertree records.

Patty, Kevin, and Johnny make troglodyte, teenbeat garage-punk with enough primitive grit to rival your favorite pebbles, nuggets, and back-from-the-gravers.  Their debut single unleashes two essential scorchers into the wild.

"She Does Those Things to Me" delivers a catchy 4-chord foundation before pummeling you with buzzsawing guitars, pounding drums, and a full-on throaty wail.  B-sider "Don't Need Your Love" is just as catchy, coated in lo-fi snarl with enough sentimentality and twang to really mean it.

coming soon: Adam Widener - Vesuvio Nights LP (teaser)

Adam Widener's debut album, Vesuvio Nights, is at the pressing plant now! After a string of punchy, highly-addictive singles, Adam Widener (ex-Bare Wires, Zygoteens) is about to hit us with his 14-song album.  These songs are all earworms! If Richard Hell were backed by Devo instead of the Voidoids, this is the kind of catchy, mod punk/powerpop jams you'd be hearing.

The cover art is above.  The album will be available this fall on speakertree, but for now, here's a teaser trailer to get ya ready.  Dig!

Lilys / Big Troubles - split 7"

We are beyond excited to bring you the latest Speakertree release - a split 7" between two of our absolute favorite shoegaze/dream-pop artists past and present - Lilys and Big Troubles.  This one has been YEARS in the making...

Kurt Heasley's music is often as mercurial as his whereabouts, but Lilys have always been two or three steps ahead of the musical curve.  They nail it again with their first recorded song in over 6 years, the expansive "Well Traveled Is Protest."  Kurt describes his current style as "a Fela Kuti rocketship vibe" and we have to agree.  This is an incredible pop song unlike anything we have ever heard!

New Jersey natives, Big Troubles, have been making sweeping pop songs for several years now with their last LP on Slumberland Romantic Comedy being one of the better records of 2011.  "Comb My Hair" is the B side of the 7" and has a late night burn that, after a few listens, becomes indelible.

The Unwed Teenage Mothers

We've got some exciting things coming your way this summer.  First up is a new EP from The Unwed Teenage Mothers.

The Mothers unquestionably prove that they can hold their own in a world measured up against a Marked Men-level of pop songwriting. There is a classic urgency swelling in the heart of each of these four tracks with influence pulled from 70s powerpop filtered through a driving, burning swagger. Distorted guitar tones cut through chiming, punchy melodies at key moments, effectively forcing a restless confusion into the hook-laden tracks.  Behind the manic mask of hyper-active ADD jitteriness, lies a somewhat despairing, familiar undercurrent which works to lend the music a certain depth and relatability.  If you're looking still for that close-out summer soundtrack or even just a party pleaser, these guys are here to help. This is rock'n'roll for the disheartened and it's perfect.                                                                    - Chaz Martenstein (Bull City Records)

 7" limited to 300 copies.

Borrowed Beams of Light (spkr003 & wr001)

Got another great one for you - Charlottesville's own Borrowed Beams of Light. Their debut, Stellar Hoax (a co-release with our friends at World Recs) is a psych-pop gem-of-an-album inspired by the Voynich manuscript.

Check out this great review from Dusted!
